  • “Kurzweil joins Google” – KurzweilAI

“Kurzweil joins Google to work on new projects involving machine learning and language processing” – KurzweilAI I think many of us are probably overreacting a bit to this news, but the announcement certainly evokes visions of a nexus of activities and breakthroughs leading to the Technological Singularity. The announcement, though, is short on detail and long…

  • Husbands

Husbands web series with favorable quotes

My second most favorite web series of the year: season 2 of Husbands. After a successful Kickstarter, the second season had higher production values and many special guest stars.

  • Neil’s Puppet Dreams

YouTube image of Neil's Puppet Dreams with Neil Patrick Harris alarmed between puppets

Neil Patrick Harris dreams THE LULLABYE—Neil’s Puppet Dreams— first episode of a very risque new series on the Nerdist YouTube channel.

  • The Outs

The Outs is by far my favorite web series this year. The first episode “State of the Union” introduces the perfect mix of humor and angst that proves online video reaches the quality of award-winning cinema.

  • Where the Bears Are

YouTube - Where the Bears Are still with two men in bed

Another funny web series about bear culture shenanigans and murder (!) that manages to be pretty risque even for YouTube.

  • Gay’s Anatomy

Gay’s Anatomy is Grey’s Anatomy meets The Office by way of Queer as Folk. This hysterical web series began its second season in 2012 after a long delay.

  • Eastsiders

The first episode of a new gay-themed web series called Eastsiders, starring Van Hansis and Kit Williamson. This is the latest great web series in a year packed full of them.

  • Craig Mod’s Subcompact Publishing Concept

Craig Mod is writer, designer, and publisher exploring the possibilities of digital books. He recently wrote about “Subcompact Publishing” that spawned a lot of discourse across the web. As you may recall, this year I have been spending a lot of time posting about digital publishing, in fact devoting one of my boards on Pinterest…
