So when I saw the lizard in my bathroom I decided to let it be. I certainly wasn’t going to kill it, and the other option was to carry it outside, where it was cold and I wondered what beasts might prey on it as soon as I shut the door to my apartment.

A lizard dies in a bathroom, spawning guilt, confusion, and thoughts about the far future.
After I left a lizard alone in my bathroom but found it dead the next morning, I wrote an essay about it. I then self-published the essay on Hi, Craig Mod’s image and story website, now defunct but archived.
The essay later became a published poem.
