Brother

Hanging in the garage
door down latched
opener out of reach
did you
imagine it
opening
or
did you
                breathe
in concrete gasoline fumes paint
thinner your dad’s dust
cough and wince at pain
or
did you
despair bruising
abandonment by your mom
and brother without
excuses
or
did you
brace before
the extension cord struck
your back again?
