Alice Hatcher Craft Class

đź“š I participated in a fantastic craft class today with Alice Hatcher, author of The Wonder That Was Ours. She was interviewed by ReneĂ© Bibby, Director of the Writers Studio Tucson, and local students in the Master and Advanced workshops. The recording will be available in February to students in the Winter-Spring 2019 Writers Studio Craft Class or for purchase on the website.

We learned from Hatcher about using a universal “we” (in this case, cockroaches) persona narrator that acts more like a third person omniscient narrator; reminding the reader of the rules of the narrative as necessary; the use of a humorous and conversational tone to tell a story with a sad, very dark mood; approaches to handling violence on the page that might be traumatic and triggering to both the writer and readers; and much more.
